Join us for an internal medicine yoga teacher training on the Nervous System and Restorative Yoga. This training is co-taught by Tiffany Cruikshank and Amy Sedgwick MD, and Eding Mvilongo MD. We are thrilled to have Amy and Eding on board to present the Western anatomy and physiology of the nervous system while drawing from their respective expertise in emergency medicine and anesthesiology. Together, these three experts will guide you through this transformative training using asana practices, daytime lectures, and case studies to create a robust, hands-on learning experience.
The Nervous System and Restorative curriculum begins by looking at the nuanced functions of our nervous system and their relevance to yoga. We will discuss the big picture of what we know to be the therapeutic effects of our practice and how we can harness more potential to make the entire practice more therapeutic.
This course takes place at one of Yoga Medicine’s favorite destinations — the Suryalila Retreat Center in Cadiz, Spain. Suryalila is tucked away in the beautiful countryside so you can experience a refreshing change of pace from your daily routine during this yoga teacher training in Spain. Enjoy locally sourced vegetarian menus designed daily by the onsite chefs. We hope you can join us there!

Nervous System and Restorative Yoga Teacher Training (55 Hours)
The nervous system is in many ways the ruler of the body and mind; the effects we see here spill over into all the other systems of the body. This system is also responsible for a large part of what we can quantify in the therapeutic effects of the yoga practice. The Internal Medicine 1 yoga teacher training will look at the function of the nervous system, common pathologies, and invaluable adaptations to incorporate into a yoga practice.
The tools learned in this training could be one of the most effective means of working with restorative yoga to soothe the nervous system. We’ll investigate the “what, why, and how” for the application of restorative yoga as a method of regulating the nervous system. This teacher training will explore how to shape the practice specifically to address nervous system dysfunction, how to teach/use restorative yoga, and most importantly, the relevance of this system towards many pathologies and how to utilize these concepts within the yoga practice.
This Nervous System and Restorative yoga teacher training counts as 55 hours towards your 500-hour/1000-hour Yoga Medicine certification. Directly following the yoga teacher training you will be invited to take an online exam to receive your certificate of completion.
The Suryalila Retreat Center
Suryalila is nestled serenely in a large open valley in the foothills of the Sierra de Grazelema. This majestic mountain range can be seen looming large on the horizon behind Suryalila. A striking part of the natural beauty of the property is the breathtaking vista extending in all directions: rolling hills, fields of sunflowers, and lakes. The sense of vastness and expansiveness is very uplifting.
Suryalila is a beautiful old renovated olive farm consisting of eight houses that form the cortijo. The property sits on 45 acres of land and is still a working olive farm with 350 olive trees. The onsite gardens produce organic vegetables and fruits that are featured in your daily meals alongside fresh eggs from the chickens. Suryalila’s team of chefs create the daily meals based on the seasonal offering and are well-known for delivering colorful and delightful vegetarian meals!
After registration, you will receive more information about the retreat center for transportation and planning ahead. You are also welcome to find out more here.
