Internal Medicine 1: Nervous System & Restorative Yoga (60hr)

Join us for Yoga Medicine’s Internal Medicine module on the Nervous System & Restorative Yoga. This module will be co-taught by Tiffany Cruikshank & Amy Sedgwick, MD, FACEP, E-RYT. We are thrilled to have Amy on board presenting the Western anatomy & physiology of the nervous system. Together our expert teachers will guide you through this transformative training using asana practices, daytime lectures & case studies to create an in-depth, hands-on learning experience.

This module begins by looking at these three crucial systems & their relevance to yoga. These systems form a large part of what we know to be the therapeutic effects of our practice and have the potential to make the entire practice more therapeutic. We will look at how the physiology of these systems is affected by yoga and new research around this area as well as explore how to shape the practice specifically to address these areas.

APRIL 15-22, 2018

For teachers dedicated to a higher standard of learning looking to deepen their knowledge.

The 60-hour advanced courses are for yoga teachers enrolled in our 500-hour program and are dedicated to pursuing their 500-hour certification with Yoga Medicine. Every participant has at least a 200-hour teacher training certificate and is actively working with students and clients in a yoga setting.

We believe that an experienced yoga teacher is a key component in our healthcare network and with our credentials, people know they have a teacher who is knowledgeable and experienced. The 500hr advanced training focuses on a deeper understanding of Western anatomy and physiology and its application to the traditional yoga philosophy. We train our teachers to understand the body and the practice so that they can understand how to apply the practice to the individual with any style or level of practice to create personalized therapeutic yoga sessions.

The Nervous System & Restorative Yoga Module (60hrs)

The nervous system is in many ways the ruler of the body & mind; the effects we see here spill over into all the other systems of the body. This system is also responsible for a large part of what we can quantify in the therapeutic effects of the yoga practice. The Internal Medicine 1 module will look at the function of the nervous system, common pathologies, & how to adapt a yoga practice to work with dysfunction here.

The tools learned in this training could possibly be one of the most effective means of working with the nervous system through the use of restorative yoga. We’ll investigate the what, why, & how for the application of restorative yoga as a method of regulating the nervous system among other things. This module will explore how to shape the practice specifically to address nervous system dysfunction, how to teach/use restorative yoga, & most importantly, the relevance of this system towards many pathologies & how to utilize these concepts within the yoga practice. Note that the Internal Medicine modules can be completed in any order.
