Yin & Meditation Module (60hr)

CUSCO, PERU | OCTOBER 20-27, 2018

We are looking forward to Yoga Medicine’s first visit to this sacred spot in Peru with a curriculum close to our heart – the Yin & Meditation training. This module will be co-taught by Tiffany Cruikshank & Rashmi Bismark, MD, MPH. Rashmi brings over 15 years of study & practice of alternative healing modalities, including ayurveda, energy healing, yoga, & meditation. Together, these expert instructors will lead the group in lectures, discussions & practices – Rashmi guiding the mindfulness & meditation component & Tiffany leading the yin & morning asana/meditation practices. This is the second time that Tiffany & Rashmi have led this training together, & it is our pleasure to offer this training again with two experts from complementary fields in this incredible location!

OCTOBER 20-27, 2018

For teachers dedicated to a higher standard of learning looking to deepen their knowledge.

The 60-hour advanced courses are for yoga teachers enrolled in our 500-hour program and are dedicated to pursuing their 500-hour certification with Yoga Medicine. Every participant has at least a 200-hour teacher training certificate and is actively working with students and clients in a yoga setting.

We believe that an experienced yoga teacher is a key component in our healthcare network and with our credentials, people know they have a teacher who is knowledgeable and experienced. The 500hr advanced training focuses on a deeper understanding of western anatomy and physiology and its application to the traditional yoga philosophy. We train our teachers to understand the body and the practice so that they can understand how to apply the practice to the individual with any style or level of practice to create personalized therapeutic yoga sessions.

Anticipated Daily Schedule

7-9:30am — Asana
9:30-10:30am — Breakfast
10:30-1pm — Lecture for Teacher Training
1-3:30pm — Lunch then afternoon break
3:30-6pm— Lecture for Teacher Training
6-7pm — Restorative practice
7-8pm — Dinner
8-9pm —Homework

Your stay will include 7 nights of accommodation & daily vegetarian meals prepared by the retreat’s on-site chefs using local produce. Each day will commence with a daily two-hour morning practice & ends with a calming evening practice that transfers the day’s lecture content into physical form. The teacher training lectures are held during the day & we recommend reviewing each evening to help you retain the information.

This module counts as 60 hours towards your 500/1000hr Yoga Medicine certification. Directly following the module you will be invited to take a short, online quiz to receive your certificate of completion.

Yin & Meditation (60 hours)

This module looks at these two more contemplative practices & the science behind how they can be used more therapeutically. We will look at how & when to use yin & meditation practices, as well as the science behind how it affects our physiology. We will dissect the yin yoga practice & examine how to apply it in a therapeutic format as well as breakdown the Chinese Medicine meridians & look at how different yoga poses affect the energetic body. We will also cover how to introduce your students to meditation, common misconceptions, hindrances & the when, why & how of meditation as well as a look at some of the current research around meditation practices. We will examine the science behind the physiological & psychological benefits as well as the concept of neuroplasticity & how it relates to a yoga & meditation practice.

This week involves an introspective practice of self inquiry through daily practices of meditation, mindfulness, & yin yoga. Participants must have a strong desire to cultivate a meditation practice or already have a regular meditation practice. We welcome the seasoned or novice meditator as long as both come with an open mind. Each day you can expect morning and afternoon meditation practices intermingled with light vinyasa & yin yoga. Come prepared for a brain full of information as well as time spent on more contemplative personal discoveries.

Willka T’ika is located at Paradero Rumichaka – 2 kilometers north of Urubamba, a 75-minute drive en route to Machu Picchu from the Cusco airport & a 30-minute drive from Ollantaytambo train station as well as the trains to Machu Picchu. The closest airport is the Alejandro Velasco Astete International Airport in Cusco, which is approximately a 75-minute drive to Willka T’ika. Enrolled participants will receive information for group & private shuttles.

Due to the high elevation in Cusco & the surrounding area, you can expect some adjustment to altitude. Each person’s adaption is different & we recommend doing some research in advance, & some may prefer to arrive early or extend their stay accordingly. With the high elevation you can expect cooler temperature (bring layers!) & the benefit of enjoying the mosquito-free outdoors! For more information on Willka Tika, click the button below.

When booking flights, please keep in mind that the training begins with dinner on October 20th & ends with a morning vinyasa class from 7-8:30am followed by breakfast on October 27th. You must be present for the entire duration of the training in order to receive your hours. Please review the attendance policyfor details.

When traveling to another country, you may also need to contact your health care provider about any necessary immunizations as well as making sure your prescription medicines, passport, & any travel visas are in order. The airfare & ground travel is the responsibility of the participant, so we urge you to coordinate these logistics well in advance & make smart decisions based on weather & events on the ground.
