Training Description

We are excited to offer our newly updated ______ Yoga Teacher Training this year with new info, research and techniques! This in-person training will be co-taught by our founder Tiffany Cruikshank L.AC. MAOM and Yoga Medicine® Therapeutic Specialists — Jenni Tarma and Rachel Land. As an RRCA Endurance Coach, CrossFit L1 trainer and lifelong athlete, Jenni specializes in mobility, movement and injury prevention. She works rigorously with athletes of all levels one-on-one to improve performance, mechanics, and recovery. As a E-RYT500 and Senior Yoga Medicine Instructor, Rachel’s approach blends traditional yoga practices with extensive study in anatomy, physiology, sports training and therapeutics. Her specialties are in orthopedics, pain and myofascial release.

This intensive yoga teacher training is part of our core orthopedic curriculum, making it an ideal experience for teachers who want to expand their knowledge and incorporate therapeutic, anatomically based sequencing into their teaching. Back pain is by far the most common reason patients and students seek help, making this a perfect training for those who work with students in pain or for those who work with athletes/clients looking to enhance performance or minimize injury.

In this Spine Training, you will be guided through a deeper look into the anatomy and function of the spine as a basis to give you the tools to conduct an evaluation of the spine and create individualized therapeutic applications in a yoga setting. We will assess the spine’s mobility, common injuries, and common types of dysfunction alongside an exploration of the therapeutic applications and how to support these issues within a yoga context both preventatively and for injury recovery.

We pride ourselves in bringing the content alive through relevant practices, lectures, mini sessions and reviews along the way to reinforce the information. After completing this training, you will leave with a robust understanding of the spine’s anatomy and how you can apply this knowledge to provide your yoga students with a more impactful, well-rounded approach to spine integrity within a therapeutic yoga setting.

With this 6-day, 50-hour yoga teacher training located in one of Boston’s most desirable downtown locations, this urban-style module allows you to explore Copley Place’s cobblestone streets steeped in history. We hope you’ll join us for this New England urban training!

Training Details

The Yin & Meditation Teacher Training kicks off with a deep dive into the science of stretching and research around fascia in order to look at the therapeutic implications of Yin yoga.

You’ll dissect the what, why, when and how behind both the gross and subtle aspects of teaching a Yin yoga practice and all the details in between to give you everything you need to teach group Yin classes and incorporate Yin yoga into private sessions.

This curriculum also includes a mastery of Chinese Medicine Principles and the essentials of teaching meditation. We’ll cover how to facilitate meditation in group and private settings, and how current research around meditation practices can offer beneficial perspectives for your students.

We will also examine the science behind the physiological and psychological benefits as well as the concept of neuroplasticity and how it relates to meditation. You’ll see an overview of styles and techniques to help guide your students and your own practice.

Throughout the training, you can expect meditation practices intermingled with lecture, light vinyasa and yin yoga. The vinyasa component is mild and moderate and is used to demonstrate how you can weave different styles together as well as help break up the lectures and bring the meridians and content to life!

Come prepared for a brain full of information as well as time spent on more contemplative personal discoveries.

Topics that we will cover during the Yoga Medicine Yin & Meditation Online Teacher Training include:

  • The science of stretching, its effects on fascia, and what the latest research recommends in terms of yoga applications
  • Fascia anatomy and function in a Yin practice
  • Joint mechanics as it relates to static stretching in Yin yoga
  • The myofascial chains and how they inform smart Yin sequencing
  • Chinese Medicine principles, Yin/Yang Theory, and using the meridians to support the energetic body
  • How to incorporate Yin into group classes vs. private sessions
  • The essentials of teaching both guided and unguided meditation, including how and when to incorporate variations such as still vs. moving, focused attention vs. open monitoring, and more
  • The effects of meditation on the brain, ways to increase neuroplasticity, and transformative learning through mindfulness
  • Obstacles in the meditation practice and how to address them
  • Individualizing private sessions to support uniqueness

This yoga teacher training counts as 50 hours towards your 500-hour/1000-hour Yoga Medicine certification. Directly following the yoga teacher training you will be invited to take an online exam to receive your certificate of completion.

Julie Paddock

500-Hour Yoga Medicine Teacher

“I work regularly with an active senior population (65 – 78 years old). I have taught a large number of these students for 5+ years. The therapeutic insights I’ve gained through my studies with Tiffany and Yoga Medicine have proven greatly beneficial to this clientele. Several students have written personal testimonies of the benefits they receive from their yoga practices, including MFR techniques — mainly in increasing interoception, ROM, and freedom from pain.”

Alison Heilig

500-Hour Yoga Medicine Teacher

“I’ll definitely be applying what I learned at the MFR module and the ones that follow in my book, The Durable Runner, and I’ll be sharing some of the techniques through my online yoga video brand, Yoga for Durability. I’ll also be using this knowledge in working with my corrective exercise clients as well as the runners and CrossFitters that I coach.”
