Thanks so much for the advice guys! I’ve created a new YP for her and recommended seeing a doctor. I’ll keep you posted! <3
I have expereinced wrist pain, hand and finger tingling and numbness. I did have the test for carpal BUT it turns out a tight trap, scaline and subscap were the major root cause of my wrist/hand issues. I’m also hypermobile in my hands and wrists and I agree with Andrea that sometimes rest is best. I also notice if I’m teaching alot and praction my own a lot and I’m tired and not using my core as much my forearms and wrists take the brunt of the load that my core isn’t carrying. Good luck!
I have a client with stenosis and a bulging disc (maybe – she has self diagnosed the disc) and work for the deep core – TVA activation and obliques as well as working on pelvic asymmerties has helped quite a bit for her to reduce her pain and gain strength. Please let us know of your progress.
This is just a guess here but it could be that her elbow ROM is being limited by a tight chest and shoulder combo. It is helpful for people who have shoulder and chest tightness to rotate the hands to make space for the decreased ROM in DD and table. I have has greast success with encouraging students to play around with hand placement in both poses. There is an article on either YJ or yoga international that addresses this idea of hand position and our conidtioning through our TT programs to cue wrist crease and middle finger face front of the mat. I would be curious to see the impact of myofascial release done on the shoulder, seratus and chest on her elbows. Does she notice any tingling or numbness in the hands and/or fingers in supine chest openers?
My first session with someone is all about what is the current state of their body and what their goals are. We do the ROM tests, muscle testing and the QRSPT. I also have a long health histroy that I have them fill out ahead of time just so I know about medications, family histories, current health status, surgeries, etc. I find all of this incredibly helpful not only for the client but also for me as a practitioner. I feel much more organized and structured so I know that I’m evaluating my clients in the same manner.
