Lara is a recovering alcoholic and addict who was introduced to yoga in 2002, about 2 months prior to gaining her sobriety. Yoga played a very significant role in her recovery process, serving as a source of motivation to recover. She found the benefits of practicing yoga and meditation were extremely supportive during the initial physical withdrawal symptoms as well as during the secondary withdrawal phase.
After she maintained continuous sobriety, she completed a graduate degree in substance abuse counseling. Lara worked for over 12 years in a variety of in-patient, residential, and out-patient treatment settings across a spectrum of age groups. She created a yoga program in three separate in-house treatment programs and one out-patient program. All four of these programs supported the cognitive behavioral treatments, offering patients gentle yoga classes on a weekly basis, each class tailored to their physical limits alongside meditation for stress relief and coping skills.
In 2012, Lara completed her 200-hour teacher training with an emphasis on the vinyasa traditions. She has spent the last 3 years studying with Tiffany Cruikshank and Yoga Medicine and in November 2018, Lara completed her 500-hour advanced studies having added yin, restorative, myofascial release, therapeutics, internal medicine, traditional Chinese medicine, orthopedics, and cadaver dissection studies to her training experiences. Lara is registered as a Yoga Medicine Therapeutic Specialist and has assisted Tiffany for 500-hour YM trainings while pursuing the 1000-hour accreditation.
In addition to teaching, Lara is the co-founder of Yogalab Northwest, a community inspired organization that hosts international yoga teachers in the Seattle area. Lara has completed 50 hours of advanced training with Jason Crandell, 25 hours of advanced therapeutics with Amy Ippoliti, and 25 hours of assisting with Lisa Black. As co-founder of Viveka Yoga RYS, Lara has mentored dozens of aspiring teachers. When she is not teaching she spends time traveling with her husband and son in the Seattle area.
