About Shannon Stephens

Shannon is a 500 E-RYT Yoga Medicine® teacher based in Oklahoma City. She specializes in yin, vinyasa, and meditation and has additional training in mindfulness meditation and Thai Yoga bodywork. Shannon is down to earth and encourages her students to be at home in their bodies. Her yoga and meditation classes promote mindful, compassionate awareness. Shannon’s yin classes are designed to guide students deeper into their physiology, and to nurture a calm, quiet internal environment. Her vinyasa classes promote deep focus and an understanding of anatomical alignment, with a playful approach to movement. She believes that through yoga we cultivate awareness and compassion, and that by turning inward we learn how to nourish and heal ourselves.

Shannon is owner of This Land Yoga and co-founder of Awake OKC, a non-profit organization that offers weekly meditation classes and mindfulness training for public schools, prisons, and recovery programs. She leads a 200-hour teacher training program at her studio in Oklahoma City and offers Yin trainings and continuing education workshops throughout the year. Shannon enjoys writing about the practice and is a contributing author for Yoga Journal.

She holds a Master of Arts degree in art education, and her 10 years of classroom teaching experience add another layer of expertise to her toolkit, which she pairs with observation, intuition and a love of music to create classes that are tiny worlds unto themselves. Students relax into the experience and find power and playfulness in the calm.
