Training Description

Have you ever wondered why or how to use specific breath work practices in a group or therapeutic setting? Are you curious why specific pranayama techniques work so well for some students and less so with others? Are you interested in learning the physiological mechanisms behind the pranayama practices? There’s a plethora of new information floating around in cyberspace on the research behind many of these practices, yet it can be overwhelming to filter through all of this to find the golden nuggets and most of the information & trainings available only cover a small portion of information so you get just a small view of how these practices work.

In this 18-hour, LIVE online training led by Tiffany Cruikshank, L.Ac. and Katja Bartsch, BSc, BCSI, you will learn both the anatomy of respiration, breathing mechanics, the relationship between breathing and the nervous system, and the physiology & biochemistry of respiration, as well as a breakdown of traditional pranayama techniques and applications. You’ll get an in-depth look at the what, why, and how behind the full spectrum of pranayama practices found in the yoga tradition as well as those commonly taught outside of the yoga realm. You will leave this training feeling confident implementing breath work therapeutics in your group & private sessions with an in-depth look at the research to inform and support your students.

This ‘first of its kind’ training illustrates both the research & science alongside the traditional pranayama practices so you can individualize these practices for your students. We’ll dig deep into the anatomy & physiology behind the techniques so you understand how to individualize and apply this information in a class setting. We’ll map out the yoga applications, progressions, cueing, supportive MFR practices, and other nuances to get the most out of these practices.

500-Hour Yoga Medicine Teacher

“I'm continually impressed with the quality of Yoga Medicine programming, the dedication to real, usable education, and the hearts of the group of people that show up to each training. Each YM training has served me perfectly at that moment in my life, and I just want to express my gratitude again to you Tiffany and your team for your tireless commitment to creating exceptional experiences.”

Sophie Tashkovski

500-Hour Yoga Medicine Teacher

“There is no doubt that I have become a better teacher with each training I attend. YM trainings have fine tuned my understanding of anatomy, and helped me better understand how to help individual clients feel best in their bodies. I’ve also learned about my own body and how to treat it with kindness. YM trainings have changed my Yoga perspective-when I started as a Yoga student, I thought you had to push yourself at all costs to achieve a pose. Now I accept where I am on any given day and know that it might be different the next day.”
