The 500HR yoga teacher training focuses on a deeper understanding of anatomy, kinesiology, pathology, and modalities from Eastern and Western medicine in addition to their applications to traditional yoga practices. We train our teachers to understand the body and the practice so they can create a personalized therapeutic yoga program for an individual at any level or style of practice.
Each yoga teacher training has an intensive practice component as well as a mixture of the following: yoga therapeutics, anatomy, kinesiology, physiology, pathology, philosophy, sequencing, assisting/adjusting, restorative postures, pranayama, meditation, language, accessibility, and specific case studies for deeper learning. You’ll leave our trainings with a head full of new information, inspired and armed with a wealth of tools and techniques to use with your students right away.
After you have completed the 500HR program, you will be eligible to register as a Yoga Medicine® Therapeutic Specialist.

Program Length and Location
This program is customized by you and specifically designed without a beginning and ending point. We provide a training system that allows our teachers to decide how they want to develop as a teacher by allowing you to create your own program. Because this is an advanced yoga teacher training, it is meant to be done over the course of several years so that you can incorporate and apply the information as you go, which allows you to get the most out of the training.
We offer both week-long retreats (modules) and shorter trainings that take place in event venues (immersions). Our 500HR yoga teacher training program attracts teachers from all over the world and can be done from anywhere by picking and choosing your courses. You’re welcome to pick trainings based on the location, date, or the curriculum, however, we recommend incorporating our core curriculum: the 3 main ortho modules (Spine, Hip and Shoulder), the Traditional Chinese Medicine training, and the Myofascial Release training.
We believe continued education is an ongoing process without an endpoint so there is no time restriction to complete the program.
Requirements and Application Process
The requirements to complete the 500HR certification include:
- 200HR yoga teacher training certificate from a Yoga Alliance certified school*
- 290 training hours with Yoga Medicine®**
- 10 hours case study homework***
*If your 200HR isn’t from Yoga Medicine®, then it will be considered a Yoga Alliance 300HR certificate they get on top of your current 200HR.
**This can include a combination of hours accumulated from our Modules, Immersions, and Online Courses (maximum 20 hours from online courses, anything over that will be applied to your 1000HR certificate or continued education). *Due to COVID-19, all in-person trainings that are transitioned to online trainings will still count as the full “contact” hours towards your 500-hour Yoga Medicine® certification.
***Our 500hr requirement policy changed January 1, 2020. For those who were accepted into the 500HR program prior to 2020, they need 270 hours of advanced training and 30 hours of case studies to complete the 500HR. For those who applied after 2020, they now have to complete 290 hours in advanced trainings and 10 hours in case studies.
We carefully select our applicants so that we can work closely with our teachers to guarantee a higher level of proficiency. Please fill out and submit your application online.
Once your one-time application is approved, a $500 deposit will be due for each 500HR module you register for which will reserve your space in the week-long training.
Full payment for each yoga teacher training is due in full roughly 90 days prior to the start date (sometimes longer if specifically noted) for that module. Deposits are non-refundable and non-transferable, and final payments are non-refundable and non-transferable after the due date. These dates are always disclosed in advance.
For immersions, your full payment is either made through Yoga Medicine® or the hosting studio.
