Training Details

This Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) Yoga Teacher Training will provide you with a deep knowledge of TCM concepts as it applies to a yoga practice. We cover the foundations of Chinese Medicine theory to help you understand your student’s unique needs and how you can use this information to individualize your classes with them to make your work with them more effective.

You’ll learn Chinese Medicine five-element theory, yin and yang theory, meridian theory and the differentiation of the organs as it applies specifically to yoga. You’ll dig deeper to examine common conditions and differential diagnosis in Chinese Medicine. You’ll learn potent acupressure points and their integration in a yoga practice and a wealth of applications to a therapeutic practice.

This is one of our foundational courses and we believe it provides critical information on how to work one-on-one with students in a way that supports their unique body and mind. This longer format will incorporate case studies to help you integrate the information in a relevant and effective way to start using with your students right away. This training is a game changer for group and private classes and will forever change the way you teach.

You will complete this training with a deep understanding of:

  • Yin/Yang Theory and the 8 principles of diagnosis
  • Meridian Theory, locations and application to yoga practices
  • The 5 elements and their therapeutic applications
  • The application of TCM principles to common dysfunctions and the ability to brainstorm uncommon/unknown issues
  • How to modify practices and techniques to suit the individual

  • How to incorporate TCM applications within a yoga setting
  • How to create group class sequences around TCM themes

500-Hour Yoga Medicine Teacher

“Take your understanding of wellness and the art of natural healing to another level! Incorporating Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) into teaching yoga has enhanced my sequencing and wellness strategies to share with students, especially during seasonal transitions when we can feel stressed but may not be aware of why. Change is constant – day to day and season to season. Taking a TCM approach to yoga helps you to guide students into seasonal food choices and lifestyle habits that they can take off the mat to find balance in their lives. This knowledge will also enhance your sequences with poses that engage and open meridian lines by working with the 5 elements to provide a therapeutic experience. Understanding TCM helps yoga teachers see how the external environment is mirrored in the internal environment. Concepts of yin and yang can also be used to theme the class – physically through the postures or connecting to larger themes like kindness and forgiveness (which are aspects of the elements).”

500-Hour Yoga Medicine Teacher

“Incorporating Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) principles in my yoga sequencing is one of the most inspiring tools I’ve come across during almost twenty years of teaching yoga. When you learn the energetic meridians of TCM, you can target those areas of the body through asana and adapt it to address numerous conditions or concerns. To magnify the effectiveness of your teachings you can also create an emotional setting with your knowledge of the 5 elements: are you aiming to release frustration, create introspection, or do you simply want to support those students who need structure? The possibilities are endless. Instead of “just” teaching a class, there’s now a direction to my classes that can support my students on an even deeper level.”
